Reflecting on Endings and Transitions

With this being my very last week, I’ve been thinking a lot about endings and transitions. My time at COMPASS has meant so much to me, and I’ve truly enjoyed meeting many of you through Memory Café and our other gatherings. It has really made me reflect on how important it is to recognize and honor these transition moments in life.

Endings can be hard. Saying goodbye isn’t always easy. Sometimes it feels awkward to share that you’re moving on, or it can bring up feelings of sadness, anxiety, or even uncertainty about what comes next. There is often a lot of anticipation in transitions—not knowing what the final outcome will be, or how things will feel on the other side.

But transitions are a natural and necessary part of life. They create the space we need for growth, reflection, and new beginnings.

Often, we focus so much on the ending itself that we forget to acknowledge the "in-between"—that quiet transition period where change is actively happening, even if it feels unclear or uncomfortable.

The Constant Transitions of Caregiving

This made me think about all of you. Caregiving is a journey defined by constant transitions:

  • Routines change.

  • Roles shift.

  • Each day can look completely different from the last.

You are continually adjusting, showing remarkable flexibility, and navigating the unknown—often without even realizing how much strength that truly takes.

Taking a moment to pause and acknowledge these shifts can be deeply meaningful. It gives you the space to reflect on what has been, what is changing, and what still remains.

A Note of Deep Gratitude

As I reflect on my time here, I just want to say how incredibly grateful I am. COMPASS is such a special program that truly supports so many important aspects of caregiving and community. I feel so lucky to have been a part of it and to have learned so much from all of you.

This week, I encourage you to take a moment to recognize the transitions in your own life, big or small. Even if they feel uncertain right now, they are a vital part of your growth.

Endings don’t just close a chapter; they also make room for something beautiful and new.

Thank you for everything, and have a wonderful week!

Warmly,
