When Life Pulls You in Every Direction

This past week, I found myself feeling really overwhelmed. Between school, preparing for presentations, interviewing for internships, working, staying social, and trying to remain present in the spaces that matter to me, it felt like I was being pulled in so many different directions at once.

Then, over the weekend, I found out I had strep throat—honestly at the worst possible time. I had two presentations coming up, had just finished a major interview, and suddenly, everything started to feel like too much.

In moments like that, it’s so easy to feel frustrated or ask, "Why now?"

But I had to stop and remind myself of a simple truth: feeling overwhelmed is completely normal. It doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong; it usually just means you are doing a lot.

Learning to Step Back and Compartmentalize

What helped me get through the chaos was learning to take a step back. I realized I couldn't fix or handle everything all at once, so I focused on what was most important in that exact moment and gave myself permission to let the rest wait.

I truly believe everything happens for a reason. Sometimes, these highly stressful moments are a reminder to slow down, practice patience, and take things one single step at a time.

I think this is something many of you can deeply relate to as caregivers. Day in and day out, you are constantly balancing an intense mix of responsibilities, emotions, and expectations.

It is simply not realistic to carry everything perfectly all the time.

Your Checklist for Overwhelming Weeks

If you are feeling the weight of your caregiving role this week, I encourage you to practice these five things:

  • 🧩 Focus on what you can control and actively practice letting go of what you can’t.

  • 🔋 Stay grounded in the activities and people that bring you positive, warm energy.

  • 🌱 Be mindful of your own needs—remember that your health and well-being matter just as much as anyone else's.

  • 🌬️ Give yourself space to pause, take a deep breath, cry, or step away for a moment when you need to.

  • 🛌 Listen to your body. Sometimes, self-care is as simple as taking a deep breath of fresh air, having a conversation with a trusted friend, or giving your body the rest it is begging you for.

Most importantly, give yourself grace.

When life feels like too much, take a quiet moment to acknowledge it. Allow yourself to feel exactly what you’re feeling. Experiencing overwhelm does not mean you are failing; it means you are human, and you are growing through a challenging season.

Have a nice week!
